 Ok guys I've got a 2002 F350 SD SRW rear torn apart in the shop right now. Just purchased truck and previous owner reported that replacement ring & pinion was installed in rear. The pinion gear had slop, I had figured that crush sleeve was not properly preloaded. I disassembled rear and found found new gears inside, a pile of shims behind rear pinion. I Removed crush collar and proceded to test fit pinion gear to achieve correct pinion depth. I was unable to achieve any pinion bearing preload. I did further Investigation and found. The new ring & pinion is stamped F 10.25. Researched application, results: truck should have 10.5" ring gear. I suspect that the replacement gear set that was previously installed in rear is for an earlier application using a different (longer, spline, strap type yolk). Note 2002 truck has flange type of yolk. Wrong ring & pinion for application? CAN ANYONE CONFIRM? Insight appreciated.
