I found a 10.25 detroit locker and want to install in my 2000 superduty. Is the carrier the same or will I need new ring and pinion for 10.25?

Okay here's a real question for you...will a diff cover off of a 10.5" fit on a 10.25" axle?
Yep, there has been a lot of people getting the finned aluminum rear cover for an 08 and it will fit all 10.5 and 10.25 axles.

Ring gear size and inner pinion bearing size are the differences between the 10.5" and 10.25"

The inner pinion bearing is taller to make up for the 0.25" difference in ring gear diameter. Other than that, the housing is the same as are the rest of the internals.

I was asking because I thought of upgrading to the 08 dif cover too. Only cost my buddy $36 or so from the dealer. I ran over to a screw supply shop to pickup the longer bolts for it. It came out looking good which is why I thought of doing mine too...Thanks guys!:redspotdance:

We all expect to see some good burnout pics after your done!
Don't forget to get longer bolts for that cover. I think we went a 1/4" longer, & they worked just fine but the dealer sells them about 1/2" longer & cost $1.47 a piece. I got the same thing for about $.65 a piece from a bolt & screw shop.

Speaking of diff covers, I just received mine from Bob at PowerStrokeShop, nice unit.
But I do have questionabout installing this thing.
It has a groove around the inside flange. Is this for an o-ring, or just glue it up with some RTV?

I'll be picking up some polished 12 point bolts for the install. May even run a string of saftey wire around it for good luck.

Does this mean that you can use a 10.5" gearset from a SD in an OBS 10.25 rear end?
