i recently picked up a 08 f450 with a shot 6.4 in it and am going to attempt swapping in a 06 6.0 psd. i have the the whole wiring harness out of the donor truck the cluster the ecm ficm fuse boxes ect. i know that i will never be able to pass emissions which is fine i dont really care about that i have someone at dmv its not a big deal . with that said im wondering if anyone has done or tried to do this swap i have found little to no info online i was able to get the 06 truck for a steal and my other option was pay way too much for a 6.4 long block which im not going to do. or do a cummins which im also not going to do any knowledge about what i mite run into or what i need to do on this swap would be greatly appreciated. i have all the time i need to get this done so that is not an issue and with what i paid for the truck and the donor i have abit of money aswell so any help on this topic would be awesome thanks in advance.

sounds interesting

my quick thoughts to get the ball rolling

coolers and radiators or huge for the 6.4 so that will be interesting
the torque converter has 8 lugs on the 6.4 so you need to address that with flywheel or torque converter swap if its an auto

the electronics and the cluster might be tricky maybe talk to circuit board medics

Yeah the radiator and intercooler def have a bigger foot print on the 6.4 and its gonna be an auto but i have the trans and converter from the 6.4 and the 6.leaker so i cant remember but i thought i seen something about using the 6.0 converter with the 6.4 trans. Or vice versa ill have to look it up again but supposedly there was some benefit to it not sure what they look like the same exact trans to me sitting side by side but guess it would have to be something inside . As far as the cluster goes i would much rather run the 08 guages but from what ive seen the protocol is completly different between the two so they say it just flat out cant work but ive seen a couple guys on other forums that did the front clip swap on like a 04 ect and they did the dash swap aswell and they seem to make the older cluster look atleast decent but the guages on pre 08 just look old to me. But i just want the truck to run at this point so im at the shop now and hopefully by the end of the day i will have the 6.0 mounted up in the 08 frame i can see already that the mounts i will have to get creative with most likely be getting out the plasma cutter beacuse from what i can tell its not going to just set rite in and bolt rite up in place of the 6.4 the crossmember is a bit different from what i can tell but shouldnt be that big of a deal . Have to make up some custom braketry for the rad and cooler drop cab back on and then onto wiring. So yeah ive got my work cut out for me but like i said i made sure to get all the wiring out of the donor truck i have ficm ecu ecm all that good stuff so i figure worst case i will rip out the whole 6.4 harness fuse boxs ect set everything down next to each other and go from there hell ill put the whole 06 wiring in if i have to. Pretty sure the majority of it is going to have to go in anyways was just hoping maybe someone had done or attempted to and had some helpful tips of some sort but either way im in this whole thing too much $$ and i refuse to shell out the 15 k i was quoted for a reman or go the fummins route. Maybe if theres any interest in this i will keep this updated with how its going n what not and post pics . Thank you for the info i do appreciate it and if anyone else has anything to add that would also be appreciated .

6.4 converter has a little higher stall

and the 6.4 5r has a few things going on that are better

but either transmission will fit either motor however the 6.4 tq converter has 8 lugs vs 6 so thats why you need to swap the flywheel with the tq converter

this is not a common swap we usually talk people out of this but I could tell you
were not going to back down from it LOL
