My brother just replaced his ficm with a used one that he said came from an f550. the truck ran a little better (ran extremely rough white smoke no power)just after putting it on, but then a day later it won't start. he said its showing the tbc fault on the dash and just turns over but will not start. i didnt know if the f550 would have the same programming or not. any ideas appreciated. thanks

You need to get the DTC scanned for starters then proceed with diagnosis. The next step is to scan engine data parameters and compare with normal values. Quick items to check are good hot batteries=clean cable connections=check engine wiring harnesses for possible rub-through=engine oil up to full level and clean condition=good clean fuel and filters. Without a diagnostic approach-you will end up spending alot of money guessing by throwing expensive parts on this truck. If you're not sure what to do=find someone knowlegeable on working on these engines that has the tools to work on this.
