I think my rear is shot, and i have found a 05 f250 rear axle for $400. I figured it would just be easier to bolt in a new one, with posi.

The guy that has it said he tried to put it in his 03 f250 and it was too wide and the calipers rubbed on his 16" rims. the TAG ON THE AXLE READS- v445a.

any info on this? Thanks.

'05+ have larger brakes and require a minimum 17" wheel. The track width is also about 4" wider overall, requiring a different wheel offset. I think if you swap your entire hub assembly to the new axle it would be fine, but I would measure the tube width first to be sure.

Driver side brake backing plate flange on axle is different. they changed it when they went to coil overs in the front. i just tried putting a older super duty rear in an 05. got to the brakes and the driver side one did not bolt up. shock mounts are different to.
