any ideas?

Most likely a bent valve. Have had 5 or 6 in the fleet do it now, not common but it does happen with 'em. Usually they'll idle really rough though, but one I had didn't idle too bad, but ran like doodoo.

Could be a bent or out of place pushrod. Figure out which side it is coming from and pull the valve cover. Possibly a broken rocker arm too.

Burnt intake valve? The valve has to be open on compression stroke to pop through the intake.

Yup. I screwed up when I did the valve springs on mine,. Last one to do -2am, pass. side, very front. Put in the push rod, and it didnt seat in the rocker good. It held the valve open just enough to make it pop. Luckily didnt hurt anything. By 4 am , had it back apart, fixed, put back together, and driving.:D. Long night . Will not EVER make that mistake again!
