I have a new to me f250 4x4 7.3 truck with 234K miles on it. I went to put it in 4 wheel drive this week end and it stayed in 2 wheel drive even though the dash and switch showed it in 4 wheel or 4 wheel low. I had a similar thing happen on a chevy and it was an actuator. I am thiniking it is something similar here. Any advice on chasing this down?

Check your PVH solenoid, and check for vacuum leaks in the hubs and lines from the PVH solenoid to the hubs. Does your air door mode work properly? These axles are very different from a chevy.

Auto or manual hubs? Check and make sure they are locked in if they are manual. Kinda sounds like a vacuum leak. These trucks are also notorious for not wanting to go out of 4 lo without really stomping the break too.

As said above, manually lock the hubs and see if it works, if so, start chasing down a vacuum leak for the auto locking.
