My buddy's dad has an 02 powerstroke. When you remove the oil filler cap, steady flume of white smoke. Truck is warmed up. Still runs fine. It does not look blue at all. Just put a new cam sensor in, truck was running like crap before. Have codes P0683 and P1316. Motor only has like 30,000 on an overhaul. He is going on a long drive this weekend, I told him to top off and check the oil when he gets home.

Is this normal? Any ideas? Thanks.

The smoke is normal, flip the cap upside down and set it on the filler tube,if it don't blow it off then don't worry about it.

Flip the cap upside down and set it on the filler neck, as long as it doesn't blow it off you should be fine. Wouldn't hurt to run a compression test if you think the blow by is really bad.
