Dude, I finally had to tear into one of those 4.2 gm straight sixes last week. It's the most difficult head I've ever done, by far. Did you end up leaving the timing cover on? Cuz I didn't, this one was leaking and had to come off. Plus, without a wedge of some kind I didn't see a way to leave the cover on.
Also, five of the head bolts busted off in the block. Basically it's a nightmare...and it still has to go back together too.
