When is it necessary to weld the cam gear?
What is involved in getting to it? Can it be done in the truck, does the radiator need to come out?
Thanks, help is appreciated!
It is just a factory motor still. Hopefully it'll stay that way for a while. Don't really want to pull it to do it unless it starts eating cam sensors or something! Thanks for the input.
We weld them in three spots. My first engine had to come apart because of a stupid mistake of not welding the cam gear on. It was the stock cam, never been seperated from the gear. It made three dyno passes within 200 miles of getting it running, the next day it started eating cam sensors. LOL
I have welded every gear on every motor since then... Even stock cams.
So do you think it needs to be done than? And can I leave the motor in and just remove everything to get access to the cam gear? Never had the front cover off so not sure what is involved!
Well hopefully it'll stay put for a while and I don't have any problems. Don't really feel like working on the truck for a while. At least till this fall or winter. LOL Thanks for the input, just trying to see what is involved if it is necessary.
If the motor is not coming out - don't worry about it. If the motor was going to be out and have the front cover off, then by all means weld it.
