Opinions on Libya?

Is the US going to turn Libya into another Iraq or Afghanistan? Smashing the country, ousting Ghadaffi, and occupying/rebuilding the country?

What do you guys think is going to happen? I know Obama has stated that he doesn't want to send troops into Libya, but do you think it will happen?

Re: Opinions on Libya?

History tells us that our involvement will escalate. Whether or not that happens this time around is something yet to be seen. It all depends on the next steps the UN and other countries decide to take, what the administration decides to do, and if congress gets involved.

I'm glad that we are there now, that is something to be proud of
We know exactly who we there to protect, and who are there to fight
This isn't Iraq, this isn't Afghanistan were you have no clue who the enemy is, as for staying, I highly doubt it, we are agains't sending troops, however, if any aircraft gets shot down, there is 2 Marines assualt ships off the coast with enough men to get them out

I give it 2-3 months, and I won't be shocked when troops end up being sent there. Qaddafi isn't just going to throw up a white flag and doesn't care if troops die for his cause. This will get just as ugly as when the world decided it was time for Hussein to be out of power. Just maybe a little smaller scale.

Two guys, one with a spotting scope and an M-16, and a radio for extraction. One with a big rifle, with a big bullet and a big scope. Problem solved.

Re: Opinions on Libya?

In this day and age - and with the previous historical reactions the U.S. has made - I think it is generally bad judgement to think we can lob a few missles at them and then say "I'm not going in to pick up the pieces!" As a nation - we like to meddle and fiddle with those that we deam need help - and it doesn't matter if they ask for it or not (or want it for another matter). I would be very surprised if we didn't end up with troops on the ground at some point.

Re: Opinions on Libya?

I think we should wait till all the OPEC/ Middle Eastern nations come back and say whether or not we should send in ground troops
As it stands I doubt it very very highly that we will, why? Because we have been asked not too by differnet nations
