Re: Sad sad day

I saw an article on this as I opened my email account this morning. Nothing starts the day off like a large dose of rage. While I understand the attempt to protect free speech, the lack of protection for the familys of the fallen is pathetic. Way to appreciate those that are out there sacrificing everything to give you the rights this country offers, a$$holes. I have never understood, why people say they hate this country so much and yet they still live here.... Dont like it? Get the fuk out! Sorry for the rant, this topic just pisses me off to no end. I hope I get to meet one of these individuals one day.....

They have to protect the first amendment Gare.

It sucks that it allows WBC to do these things.
However the supreme court left provisions in place that continue to allow states to set minimum distances from funerals for protests.

What do you think about the fact they overthrew the $5 mil settlement for the father?

I completely understand the attempt to protect the first amendment. But at what point does allowing freedom of speech whose entire intent is to cause harm and distress on others ok?

Re: Sad sad day

They really didn't have much choice but to rule this way.

The fact that it was 8 to 1....pretty much indicates that.

While I think what they do is not only deplorable, it is about the most despicable example of free speech one can imagine.

Having said that, it is still free speech.

Here is a response from another thread....... that perfectly sums it up.

I'm not promoting the right to say anything to anyone but it can be a very slippery slope when exceptions or modifications are allowed to be made to existing rules.

The best thing we can take away from this, is the fact that we are still a free nation.

Now to figure out ways to legally counter these no good azzholes!

Re: Sad sad day

I'm glad that the Supreme Court ruled with Westboro, all though I hate what they are doing, the Constitution gives them the right. Seeing this just ensures when UUHC goes in front of the Supreme Court that there is that much better of a chance of it being ruled "Unconstitutional"

Not a big deal to me.

Being in the "majority" ...does not automatically equate to being "right."

In this case however.....it does.
