Financial Meltdown Was Avoidable

According to the conclusions of a Congressional inquiry.

It does a good job of trying to find the reasons for it, regardless of which political party gets identified.

Quote:
The government commission that investigated the financial crisis casts a wide net of blame, faulting two administrations, the Federal Reserve and other regulators for permitting a calamitous concoction: shoddy mortgage lending, the excessive packaging and sale of loans to investors, and risky bets on securities backed by the loans.

“The greatest tragedy would be to accept the refrain that no one could have seen this coming and thus nothing could have been done,” the panel wrote in the report’s conclusions. “If we accept this notion, it will happen again.”

While the panel, the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, accuses several financial institutions of greed, ineptitude, or both, some of its most grave conclusions concern government failings, with embarrassing implications for both political parties.
And yet, there is still an obstinate partisanship by some.

Quote:
Of the 10 commission members, only the 6 appointed by Democrats endorsed the final report. Three Republican members have prepared a dissent; a fourth Republican, Peter J. Wallison, a former Treasury official and White House counsel to President Ronald Reagan, has written his own dissent, calling government policies to promote homeownership the primary culprit for the crisis.

So instead of looking at all of the factors that went into the mess, these four guys just want to point fingers at the "other" side.

Pretty indicative of the problems we have in this country on the whole........in my opinion.

Never have so many politicians, screwed so many Americans...just to make one black person lose his job.

Once again, you're not making any sense.

The report details the steps from BOTH party's that contributed to the mess.

The Repub's only want to point the finger in one direction........ exactly as you constantly do.

So tell me Dave, how can it be "partisan" ............. if there is a willingness to cite the failures of both party's?

C'mon...........I really want to hear this.

And is there any question which one you will agree with?

I don't think so.

You will choose to believe the one that blames only the "other" party, instead of the one that blames both.

Typical.

Dave, as has been shown time after time, you are so partisan that it is embarrassing.

You make statements that are patently false and then refuse to provide any proof of them.

When it comes to being truthful, you couldn't spell "truth".......... if I spotted you the trut.

So where do you think the reporter got so much specific information? Has it occurred to you that maybe the report has been circulated among certain people prior to publishing?

Fact: There were 10 people, 6 Dem's and 4 Repub's...... on the commission.

Fact: The 4 Repub's won't put their name on the report and will issue a different conclusion.

Now who is partisan?

OK Dave, let's sit on this until the report comes out.

If there is anything in the actual report, that is substantially different from what is in this article.......I will publicly say that you were right.

If not......YOU publicly acknowledge you were wrong.

How's that?

Fine with me.

But I laugh at you calling me the partisan one here
