Check this chit out

OK, setup - my buddy at work got a restraining order against him by his Ex wife about 20-25 years ago.

This weekend, he went out hunting with one of his buddies. A game Warden was cruising around and I guess as a standard practice they run plates of cars/trucks park in the woods. Ran his plate and it came back as having a restraining order against him. When he walked out of the woods the police were waiting and arrested him on the spot. In NJ a restraining order is for life, and if you have a RO in NJ you are not allowed to own or handle firearms! Wow - WTF. So he has a court date set for possession of firearms on a RO. How bad is this!!

Perfect example of a game warden being a total FK HEAD!

Im sure he could tell the RO was issued 20 years ago. He could have just informed your buddy and told him to get it handled asap instead of taking him to jail!

Unfortunately in NJ a RO is for life. No revoking them. Total BS.

So if I had a problem with somebody in NJ, and said they stalked me or something bogus like that, I could get a RO and fuk them over hardcore? That ain't right at all...

That isn't fair especially if there isn't an avenue to revoke the RO. The firearm thing is like he was convicted of a felony or something.

Were the firearms his?
Were they purchased before the RO?
Were they purchased at a store or private sale?
If purchased after the RO, and at a store, how would that be a legal sale?

If he knew he had a RO, he should have remembered the conditions and terms. I'm not saying that this isn't BS, just trying to state fact.

I do think the Game Warden could have gone a different route.

Porch Monkey. It's cool, I'm taking it back.

Re: Check this chit out

He may have known about the No Firearms when he got the RO 20-25 yrs ago, and apparently forgot or didn't know (not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed). Yeah, I think Game Warden checking plate of vehicles stopped by woods is BS too. As far as I know the Shotgun was his. If he had a NJ firearms card before RO, it wouldn't matter. To buy rifle or shot gun, just show card. No checks.

If I remember correctly, you have to surrender the card back to the court after conviction of any crime above class b misdemeanor or RO. I may be wrong.
