Oakland Transit Officer gets 2 years

For those that don't remember

Transit officer shoots a subdued man killing him. He gets convicted of involuntary manslaughter with a maximum sentence of 14 years minimum of two.....he got two.

Protests erupt over transit cop's sentence - U.S. news - Crime & courts - msnbc.com

I bet the SOB will be out in less than 18 months on good behavior

He got pretty damn lucky.

just imagine what you or I had would have received had we been on top of a man with our knee in his back and shot him while our friends stood watching.....if a needle is good enough for us it is good enough for an officer

I think 2 years is BS. He should have gotten a LOT more. How much time would it take for the people to be happy and not riot is my question though. The people out there seem to riot at just about anything.

I guess they are fed up with the way the government is treating them?

Had you or I done this very thing we would have had a much more severe sentence. At the very least the officer should have been held to the same standard, some say even a higher standard.

There are two sets of rules, those for the common citizen and those for the ones in power. Look at all of the tax issues with the ones that right the very tax laws and then look at what would happen if you or I didn't pay our taxes.

I believe it is just a matter of time before riots spread throughout the states, it is just a matter of which of two it will be, either to stop an oppressive government or because the checks to the poor have drastically slowed.

I wonder if he will be put in Gen Pop. If so, he will be out in less than 18 months, but it won't be for good behavior.

Nope, officers don't go to gen pop. States either have a particular section of a prison or an entire prison dedicated to "officials".
