Court hears arguments on violent video games

Court hears arguments on violent video games | accessAtlanta

Quote:
WASHINGTON The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed sympathy for a California law that aims to keep children from buying ultra-violent video games in which players maim, kill or sexually assault images of people
Quote:
Some Supreme Court justices wondered where the regulation would stop if they allowed California's law to go forward.

"What about films?" asked Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. "What about comic books?"

Justice Antonin Scalia wondered if movies showing drinking and smoking might be next.

"I am concerned with the First Amendment, which says Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech," he said. "It has never been understood that the freedom of speech did not include portrayals of violence. You are asking us to create a whole new prohibition which the American people never ratified when they ratified the First Amendment."
Don't we already have these type of laws? No more cigarette advertising, children can't rent / buy XXX or R video / magazines.

Why wouldn't this be the next natural progression of censorship?

Why am I getting the impression that you think it is unnecessary "censorship"........... that restricts children from buying cigarettes, alcohol, pornography, etc?

.

Never have so many politicians, screwed so many Americans...just to make one black person lose his job.

I think I asked a very simple question.....

If a movie is too violent and is rated R it is sensored from those under 17. Wouldn't this be the next logical step?

Sorry Ron, I think it's more than a "very simple question" .........especially knowing your aversion to most laws/rules/regulations.

I think you're headed down the "we have too many laws and where will it all stop" road.

Now prove me wrong......... and say that you don't have a problem with it.

Sorry JD, if responding to questions with more than a single, obtuse statement bothers you (or your minions).

What do I along with my beliefs have to do with it being a very simple question?

Yes, I have a problem with the Government attempting to do a parent's job. Didn't say otherwise.

I just find it funny that now, over video games, SCOTUS is asking these questions.

To answer the question I asked, that for some reason you are avoiding; with the laws that have been passed, that have been allowed to stand, this is the natural progression of censorship.

Thank you for validating my observation.

To be honest......it wasn't all that hard though.

I'm not avoiding anything.

You're just trying to frame it in your own parlance.

Your problem is that you call it "censorship" (implying something illegal).

Most people I know, would call it reasonable rules/regulations..............for the betterment of society.
