Re: 9/11 hijackers

The idea that they were Muslim is entirely up for debate.

The terrorists themselves probably thought they were Muslim.

Problem is, these terrorists went against their religion, as the majority of Muslims condemned the 9/11 attacks.

So if one group claims they are part of a religion, but the majority of the religion tells them no... then are they really a part of that religion?

For example, does anyone here consider Westboro Baptist Church a real Christian church? After all, they mock the funerals of soldiers, and the majority of Christians condemn Phelps and his church.

If they are not real Christians, than what are they? Do they consider themselves Christians? Do they consider us Christians?

Like I said, it's debatable.

Well couldn't you just say then, that they proclaimed themselves as muslims?

Curtis were they or were they not of the muslim faith? Did they or did they not identify as muslims?

And this is the exact debate I speak of

I can proclaim myself to be a Smurf. However, do I meet the generally accepted qualifications of a Smurf? Of course not. I'm too tall, my skin isn't blue, and I have a penis.

In other words, they might proclaim something, but it doesn't mean it's true. Again, do you consider WBC as a Christian church? I have to refer back to that analogy to get people to understand. Is WBC "true" Christians?
