California to Legalize Marijuana

In case you haven't heard, Cali is going to have Proposition 19 on their ballot next month asking the citizens whethere or not to legalize recreational marijuana.

And here come the Feds....

Quote:
Attorney General Eric Holder is warning that the federal government will not look the other way, as it has with medical marijuana, if voters next month make California the first state to legalize pot.
Feds oppose Calif. Prop 19 to legalize marijuana | ajc.com

Will California help lead the way to state's rights?

Should there even be state's rights or should we just bow to the Fed's demands?

Re: California to Legalize Marijuana

Pot is no worse than alcohol in my opinion. I can't imagine how the workplace and this proposed new law would play together though.
Industrial hemp is currently outlawed for our farmers to grow because it looks so close to marijuana. You can't get high off of it if you tried. It is used in many places of manufacturing but we ( the USA ) have to import it from other country's because of our laws. It is also being grown for use in the bio fuel industry. Can you imagine if we could make our fuel out of this instead of using our food to make fuel?
At one time in this country ( during war ) it was mandatory if you owned land to grow Hemp? Maybe our farmers who are being paid big $$$ for set aside land could actually grow a crop and not have to receive our tax dollars to not grow a crop!!!!!!

I am as conservative as most but the law on marijuana needs to be changed, and no I do not smoke this stuff!!

Pot raised and smoked in Cali should be immune from the feds. Just like the states that produce firearms for sale and use in the same state telling the feds to take a hike. I say if they pass it, the feds have no business messing with them.

I would love to see it pass and have the feds enforce it on all the people that will be smoking. Can you imagine the cost?

The f_cking federal government can't and don't enforce a fraction of their plethora of laws. Hell they even know what most of them are!

Arizona passes a tough immigration law.....that almost mirrors a federal government law....that they don't f_cking enforce......and they want to SUE Arizona......WTF?

...and used in cooking, and baking, and butter, and ....

It does bring up an interesting point for me. I live only 12 miles from the California border. Would it be legal for me to drive across the border, buy pot, consume it in California, and drive back the next day? What about the random drug test they would certainly give me the next day?

I'm all for state's right but I think California would have a hard time keeping this only in California.

If you run over to Nevada and visit a whore house would / could you be prosecuted in your home state where it is illegal?

As for your job, it depends on the laws of your state in regards to firing practices.

Yah, I hear ya about Nevada but, if you do it right, you don't bring anything back to Oregon that can be tested for.

I do know of a fella that went to Jamaica and did some tokin' while he was there. His employer (local government agency) did a "random" drug test when he got back and, of course, he tested positive and was subsequently fired. He sued, case went to court and he argued that he was doing what was legal in Jamaica. He got his job back with retro-pay.

Hmmmmmmm.....
