Wonder if there is a way to put a dollar figure to taxpayers for his life sentence.

Re: Sentenced to Life

The statements he made in the courtroom in response to what the judge was saying are scary to say the least. Makes you wonder how many others out there are like him.....that have access to the places he did.

The death penalty costs more.

Death Penalty Costs (click here)

Quote:
CALIFORNIA•Using conservative rough projections, the Commission estimates the annual costs of the present (death penalty) system to be $137 million per year.
•The cost of the present system with reforms recommended by the Commission to ensure a fair process would be $232.7 million per year.
•The cost of a system in which the number of death-eligible crimes was significantly narrowed would be $130 million per year.
•The cost of a system which imposes a maximum penalty of lifetime incarceration instead of the death penalty would be $11.5 million per year.

MARYLAND
The study estimates that the average cost to Maryland taxpayers for reaching a single death sentence is $3 million - $1.9 million more than the cost of a non-death penalty case. (This includes investigation, trial, appeals, and incarceration costs.) The study examined 162 capital cases that were prosecuted between 1978 and 1999 and found that those cases will cost $186 million more than what those cases would have cost had the death penalty not existed as a punishment. At every phase of a case, according to the study, capital murder cases cost more than non-capital murder cases.

Tennessee
A new report released by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury recommended changes to the state's costly death penalty and called into question its effectiveness in preventing crime.

And on and on.

Re: Sentenced to Life

I hope his day to day activies don't include use of the internet or phones. Otherwise he'll be able to accomplish the same things in prison as out.

Way too many. I'm glad to see the judge not hold back on him. Although a life sentence wastes more money, I think he would rather have the death penalty so I think life is best.

Like Gandy said... NO PAROLE!! You obviously know what will happen if he gets out.

No longer a proud member of PSN.

I am pretty sure they will keep a close eye on everything he does while in prison, like computer activity monitoring and tapped phone conversations.

Not if they would shoot him tomorrow at sunrise.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: Sentenced to Life

they really should speed up the death penalty, wth is the purpose of letting someone wait 15-20 years to die. they should give them sufficent time to appeal but they should be dead with in a few years at the most.
