Coast Guard docks oil sucking barges

I wonder how much of BP's cluster has been and continues to be caused by the Feds

BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Bobby Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard - ABC News

Quote:
Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.
Quote:
The Coast Guard needed to confirm that there were fire extinguishers and life vests on board, and then it had trouble contacting the people who built the barges.
Do the Feds really want this mess cleaned up?

I know almost everyone else in the federal government does.

I'm betting it's just a bureaucratic snafu......... at a low level.

Tank:

Stop it and let the barges go. Give them the suits and fire extinguishers and say thank you.

IMO, Obama doesn't. He wants to blame BP and use it to get Cap-n-Tax passed. For those of you in denial, please explain why he hasn't waived the "Jones Act"?

Because the Coast Guard (and the Incident Commander) has said they don't see a need........... yet.

I'll bet you're one of those that was screaming the loudest that Obama should listen to his military leaders in Iraq/Afghanistan.

But, now it's different?

Not to mention, that there are already foreign flagged ships in the Gulf and more on the way.

In response to such calls for more foreign help, the oil spill unified command on Tuesday streamlined the waiver process, adding that 15 foreign-flagged ships are already operating in the Gulf. More are on their way, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
I'll bet you on the far right............ will be blaming Obama for personally causing the blowout before it's all over.

And who do you think gives him his answers on what to say?

The difference is the military leaders over in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't the ones saying they don't need anything, they have their hands tied by the administration and it isn't just Obama, it is all the presidents since I have been alive. It is one reason that wars drag on for ever, gotta make sure that it is PC and does the least damage to the president's administration. You have your blinders on and probably can't see that though.

Wrong. From day one, I said you can't blame Obama for the spill, it will be his actions that judge what job he does to remedy the situation. The funny thing is you were probably blaming Bush for Katrina, like he could control the weather.

The guy was supposed to retire at the end of May but, stayed on to be the IC.

He can just say goodbye anytime he wants.

With that option, and the type of guy he is..........I don't see him cowtowing to anyone at this point.

Unlike military Generals who are still on active duty.

If they're active duty, and don't want to 'retire' prematurely...........then they still listen to their boss.

Thad Allen doesn't have to.

Now that's funny, coming from you!

Wrong again.

As big of a windbag as your Demi-God was........even he couldn't have caused Katrina.

Re: Coast Guard docks oil sucking barges

Would it not be appropriate to issue the executive order to waive the Jones act immediately so the Coast Guard can process it and be ready? Why wait till the last minute? Why not actually be proactive? If not needed resend the order afterwards.

Quote:
“While we have not seen any need to waive the Jones Act as part of this historic response, we continue to prepare for all possible scenarios,” Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said in a unified command press release Tuesday. “Should any waivers be needed, we are prepared to process them as quickly as possible to allow vital spill response activities being undertaken by foreign-flagged vessels to continue without delay.”
Even dumb ole Bush recognized the need to issue an order immeidately after Katrina.

Re: Coast Guard docks oil sucking barges

On the news they were showing the labyrinth of Federal agencies that were connected to the spill/clean up. It's no frigging wonder why they can't get anything done. The Governor of LA was so frustrated standing there looking at these oil sucking barges outfitted and ready......and nobody could decide or EVER even answer the question....."Who's in charge".

IMO this is where Osama Bin President has dropped the ball. He needed to designate ONE agency to take charge and make decisions and tell the others to follow those decisions. The problem is, none of these do-nothing agencies want to be responsible, especially if things don't go so well.

Isn't there one agency in charge of the waters? The Coast Guard? They have been overseeing the progress or lack there of since day one.
