suicide and salvation

Is there references to this in the bible? Is it possible to be "born again".....commit suicide and still go to heaven?

I've heard both ways.

What is your take?

Please keep the smack talk out of this thread.

Re: suicide and salvation

I beleive if you sacrifice yourself to save someone else, you go to heaven.

Re: suicide and salvation

Right....like if a soldier jumps on a grenade to safe the lives of others....etc.

What about someone who takes their life because life seems to hard to bear?

Well respected husband, father and deacon in the church...

"Thou shall not kill" Good question. Why would it not pertain. If you jumped on a grenade you would be killed by the person pulling the pin. This would not be suicide would it?

Re: suicide and salvation

I don't now about the bible, but I don't think you have the "right" to take your own life. I think it's a sin.
I understand that depression can create "tunnel-vision" in life, but suicide creates way more problems than it ever fixes. As harsh as it sounds, I think it's a coward's way out of life. Part of "being strong" in life is getting help and leaning on those around you, when needed. Suicide is selfish and tells those around they aren't strong enough for you, even though you really didn't give them the chance to try.

But, I admit, I've never had to deal with it closely, so I have no experience with it. I just see and hear the aftermaths and am usually dumbfounded and confused.

My 2 cents.

There is a difference between sacrifice and suicide. Two completely different things

Re: suicide and salvation

Long story short.....I lost a friend today.

I went out of my way to speak to him just Sunday. I have been telling my wife he is different since losing his job. I told her I wasnt sure if he was depressed or if he was upset with me. (since he was so distant)

He was a deacon and a great family man. He was like the guy you strived to be like.

I KNOW he loved God and his family very much.

I'm struggling trying to understand.

Re: suicide and salvation

Just sucks. The lives of his wife, college aged son and young daughter are now affected forever.

I guess there are many forms of mental illness.....

I never saw this coming from a guy like this.
