The Easy Road?

Our Daily Bread -- The Easy Road?
July 12, 2016

Read: Exodus 13:17-22
Bible in a Year: Psalms 4-6; Acts 17:16-34

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. —Exodus 13:17

Life’s path is often difficult. So if we expect that God will always give us an easy road, we may be tempted to turn our back on Him when the terrain gets tough.

If you’ve ever considered doing that, think about the people of Israel. When they were given freedom from the Egyptians after hundreds of years of bondage, they took off for the Promised Land. But God didn’t send them straight home. He “did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter” (Ex. 13:17). Instead He sent them on the hard road through the desert. In the short run, this helped them avoid wars (v. 17), but in the long run, there was something bigger at work.

God used that time in the desert to instruct and mature the people He had called to follow Him. The easy road would have led them to disaster. The long road prepared the nation of Israel for their successful entry into the Promised Land.

Our God is faithful, and we can trust Him to lead us and care for us no matter what we face. We may not understand the reason for the path we are on, but we can trust Him to help us grow in faith and maturity along the way. —Dave Branon

Lord, we cannot see the path ahead, so we must trust that the way is right and that it is the best road for us to take. Please encourage us, and teach us as we let You direct our path.

God’s timing is always right—wait patiently for Him.

INSIGHT: In today’s passage we read that after the Israelites left Egypt, God led them “around by the desert road toward the Red Sea” (vv. 17-18).Though there were shorter routes, God led them a longer way around the desert and demonstrated His faithfulness and power. His faithful presence was with them in pillars of fire and cloud (vv. 21-22), and He demonstrated His power by His miraculous deliverance of the Israelites from the pursuing Egyptians (Ex. 14). ). Re: The Easy Road?

I love it Brother!!! Amen!! I have a story that this reminds me of, after I bought my new (to me) pickup I was researching which lift and dual steering stabilizer kit I wanted. I found skyjacker had a nice stabilizer kit that was a great price, so I ordered it and the day I got it in I was kinda shocked! on the back of the instruction paper were 3 versus out of the bible, I cant remember which ones but that really impresses me! nowadays everyone is so scared to express their religious beliefs and here is a big parts company with bible versus for anyone and everyone to see! from that day on I will not buy suspension parts from any other company!! It makes me feel good that they are not afraid to preach the word of the lord even if they could lose a little business!! Gotta love it!!! GOD BLESS!!!

2011 F250 Lariat FX4 Rancho +3in coils up front, Skyjacker Dual steering stabilizer, Firestone 5k Ride Rite Airbags/w compressor, EGR DPF Deletes, Spartan Tuning, 4in down pipe, Flo Pro 5in exhaust, S&B Intake, 2015 63mm Turbo retro fit... ++

Re: The Easy Road?

makes me think of something, we've got a local company called 'fifteen five gutter solutions', it's named after John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
the guy told me they changed their name to that to remind them of where the money in their pockets comes from! i wonder how that affects their business, i'm sure it turns some of us on to them & other away.

On the theme of companies not afraid to share their faith, Timney Triggers out of Phoenix AZ (customizing firearms is another of my pitfalls) make excellent products and have an inspirational poem in the packaging about how we pray and ask God to take our problems but we so often continue to meddle and never fully turn them over in faith.

Re: The Easy Road?

I can say from the time I started posting these everyday on here, FB and several other forums that not only my life but my business has changed for the better, I used to bust my tail and work as hard as I could but it always seemed like I was going in circles. After almost getting divorced, as a last resort I got on my knees and cried out to God for help, I made promises I probably shouldn't have as they have been hard to keep but so far so good and God has blessed me more abundantly than I could have ever hoped for. I work less, have less stress in my life and business has doubled even in this slow economy, we opened another shop and moved to Brenham where God gave us a nice house on hill that gives a view that is almost unbelievable, all this for simply being obedient to Gods word. Too many people THINK that living a Godly life is to give up all your fun, on the contrary you haven't begun to have fun till you have God in your life and joy in your heart.
