Lawmakers Seek to Award Casualty Benefits to Fort Hood Victims

Lawmakers Seek to Award Casualty Benefits to Fort Hood Victims - FOXNews.com

There is alot of military in here. Discuss. SGLI would pay out, so the maximum would be given. TSGLI pays out a % depending on injuries. Not saying what happened wasn't bad, but I think this is a big political thing. The benifits are already there and in place.

SGLI jumped to $400k while I was still in. TSGLI is now avail to ALL military including non-deployed. Thats $100k for full payout. Thats a hefty chunk of change if i dont say so myself. However you CAN NOT put a price on someone life. What else could they possibly be going for?

Oh no doubt... It should be automatic if they decide to rule it an act of terror, and they deserve it without a doubt. Its just unbelievable... I believe they also stopped a plotted shooting @ Hood or Bliss or somewhere IIR in the last year or so didnt they?

What really got me is in the article it talks about being able to recieve maximum benifit on life insurance. The insurance is there for a reason and there is no difference in payout weither here or somewhere else. Thats why we pay for the insurance. The only thing that I see is different is the PH & BS, then it would all be on how they classify the shooting. Also it should be a Command issue not a Congress issue.

Yes, but they have to send the award recommendation up the hill anyways dont they? And I completely agree on the SGLI... there is no min or max payout. If the service member becomes deceased, the beneficiary recieves the SGLI.

No the rec. goes from company command to battalion some will go to brigade. Why do you think I don't have mine? We talked about this before, been blown up been on med-hold for over 2 years and counting. Its all on how your command is and how they do things.

Also to add to this. Public Law 99-145 authorized the award for wounds received as a result of friendly fire. So therefor they would be entitled anyway, because this is malcious friendly fire.

They won't approve this as this will give credence to the simple fact that we are still fighting the "war on terror" and that the military allowed a "terrorist" to become a Dr and practice medicine on the American troops..

Re: Lawmakers Seek to Award Casualty Benefits to Fort Hood Victims

Although what happened at Fort Hood is very sad indeed I'm not sure that I agree w/ the notion that the soldiers deserve the same benefits as soldiers killed in combat operations in a combat region.

It sets a dangerous precedent I think.

I'm officially...Stroke-less.
