J.I.S.D. says decision on Obama speech to be made Friday

http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v...yID=20207&on=1

Quote:
Jasper Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Jon Whittemore said on Thursday that he will be meeting with his staff on Friday to make a decision on whether to pipe the Tuesday presidential speech into classrooms.

Dr. Whittemore says the J.I.S.D. administration office has received calls from concerned parents that do not want their children to watch the speech.

Critics say the speech is an attempt to indoctrinate school children with Obama's beliefs, while the White House says Obama simply wants to encourage students to do their best in school.

Dr. Whittemore said that he has checked with the Texas Education Agency and he has been told that watching the speech is optional, and if the decision is made to pipe it into classrooms, no students will be forced to watch it.

, the president is going to make a speech, and parents are trying to have their kids run for the bunkers.

Damn, when I was in school we used to have speeches from Reagan and Bush Sr. piped in (Bush was on a weekly basis). No one gave a crap back then, and it certainly didn't "indoctrinate" me in the least.

I agree Curtis. As long as the speech is not political, I dont see a problem with it. While I'm most certainly not an Obama fan, I would like for my 6 yr old to become familiar with what it means to be President etc.....

If political BS is dropped in.....thats a whole nother area. If he carries through with what the say it will be (reinforcement of staying in school/ learning) I'm ok with that.
