Unions To Counter Town Hall Tea-Party

Like the cavalry, organized labor reportedly plans on swooping in to the rescue of beleaguered lawmakers who are getting shouted down by conservative activists at town hall meetings during discussions of health care overhaul legislation.

The Huffington Post's Sam Stein reports that the AFL-CIO is calling on its troops to counter the anti-health care reform hecklers.

An excerpt:

The nation's largest federation of labor organizations has promised to directly engage with boisterous conservative protesters at Democratic town halls during the August recess.

In a memo sent out on Thursday, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney outlined the blueprint for how the union conglomerate would step up recess activities on health care reform and other topics pertinent to the labor community. The document makes clear that Obama allies view the town hall forums as ground zero of the health care debate. It also uses the specter of the infamous 2000 recount "Brooks Brothers" protest to rally its members to the administration's side.

The principal battleground in the campaign will be town hall meetings and other gatherings with members of Congress in their home districts," reads the memo. "We want your help to organize major union participation to counter the right wing "Tea Party Patriots" who will try to disrupt those meetings, as they've been trying to do to meetings for the last month. ...

(Remember the hooligans many of them Republican Congressional staff who harassed Florida vote counters in 2000? We can't let that happen again!)."

These already ugly town halls look like they could be about to get significantly uglier.

Unions use strong arm tactics every day... I have had one run in after another with them in the last year. Now they are passing out flyers at this Fred Meyers saying Fred Meyer is hiring out of state workers to build there projects... Funny thing is, all my trades are from Oregon, or Vancover Washington.

Its called competitive bid... If your not low bid, I am sorry...

Re: Unions To Counter Town Hall Tea-Party

I just heard a guy call in to Rush's show from St. Louis and some union SEIU thugs just put a little ol man in the hospital at a town hall meeting that Carnahan was having. The dems are not letting people in to these town hall meetings! 2,000 people showed up and only 500 were let in and half of them were union thugs!
This is hope and change folks! This is what we get when we elect a Marxist narcissist in chief!
barack obama, change we can believe in .

Sounds like the local police and possibly the state police need to get a little more involved and make sure there is fair representation. Before things get more out of hand, and the police are dealing with a full scale local uprising.

Re: Unions To Counter Town Hall Tea-Party

Although I'm no Union supporter the scream fests that are characterizing the Health care opposition are not fair to those that come to these town hall meetings in an attempt to get information on the bill so they can decide if they support it.

Marching outside w/ picket signs is acceptable free speech.
Raising your hand and asking specific questions and/ or quoting the actual bill is acceptable free speech.
Screaming so loudly for so long that the undecided voters can not hear the person they came to see is unconscionable.

I'm officially...Stroke-less.

Whats the problem Suns? We are just taking a page from the Hippie Handbook. This type of behavior was acceptable to the Hippie Left for 3 decades, now all of the sudden it's not acceptable? I always knew hippie libs were hypocrits, but that takes the cake. Your comment above is laughable.

Why should anyone tolerate Marxist rhetoric? Anyone who has read even 1/4 of the healthcare bill knows it is so full of invasive control of our personal Liberties that it's is unconscionable to even consider allowing somone a venue at taxpayer expense, or anywhere else on US soil. And the Union thugs presence is comfirmation that this bill is nothing but a vile attempt at intimidation.

I cant believe how many people dont recognize the sound of Marxist boots marching through their cities.
