GM screwing up local economy....BAD.

I apologize for starting a political thread....mostly because I try to keep my discussions technical. But this is ridiculous.

Here's what is happening in my local economy; my hometown where I went to school (k-12) and presently work....at a dealership called "Platinum Chevy" no less.

GM under fire for palladium position

The Associated Press: Judge OKs GMs move to drop Montana mine contract

From Commodity Online

"GM says it can get the metals cheaper overseas. Stillwater’s attorneys argue the carmaker should be compelled to stick with its sole US provider at a time when it is taking billions of dollars in government loans."

Discuss.....as I've discussed it with many locals who are infuriated about a decision that was made without the board's (US taxpayers as of a couple weeks ago) vote on the fate of our mine contract.

I'm not a miner. I don't know many miners here. Sure, it brought in a lot of drugs and bad people from all over the US that now work here....but at least this town has a strong economy because of the mine population.

I have been saying this all along. If we the tax payers are paying to revive this company, there shouldn't be one part on these vehicles that isn't made within our borders, that means bringing all the parts plants and assembly plants back to the US.

The problem is the cost of the union which causes the overhead to be at a level which forces cost cuts in other areas...low cost materials.

They tried but then Obama stepped in and forced the bailouts. If they wouldve been allowed to go into bankruptcy the first time the union contracts couldve been dropped or adjusted. But as usual Obummer steps in where he doesn't fukking belong
