Well this sucks

Measure to Expand Gun Rights Falls Short in Senate - NYTimes.com

The amendment made a lot of sense to me, especially to people vacationing with their families. After all, a driver's license from one state is valid in all states, so why not a CC permit?

Re: Well this sucks

Most of those states that don't honor the permits are the states where you need a gun the most..... funny how that works.

I think it should be left up to the state to decide. I don't the federal government should have the authority to make a rule like this.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

And that's where the controversy begins. Our constitution gives us the right to own guns. In addition, states have rights, but those rights cannot infringe on the constitution. Furthermore, states are required to acknowledge laws and rulings of other states. So things like marriage and drivers licenses are recognized from one state to the next.

Now what gives a state the right to deny someone a gun to defend themselves with, especially when that gun and the owner are legally liscensed in their home state? So is the federal government overstepping their boundaries with this proposed legislation? Or are they simply following the constitution?
