Re: FACT CHECK: Obama pushes plans that flopped before

The "facts" from Newsmax..... are heavily biased and skewed.

First part: The oil subsidies - what's funny about this is how many right-wingers and conservatives want to abolish and end all government subsidies. Yet here is a plea, from a democrat, to end subsidies for oil companies. And what is the response from the right? Hmmmmmm. That's called hypocrisy, folks.

Second part: Health care - at this point, it's mostly true what Newsmax says. However, many of this stuff doesn't take effect until 2014, so we'll see what actually happens.

Third part: Manufacturing - I only have a single question to ask here. Someone explain with clarity and detail what is so horribly wrong with us having a "trade deficit", especially when the services industry is ignored? Think of what Adam Smith and Frederic Bastiat have to say about trade deficits. In other words, Newsmax here is making something out to be horribly bad, yet NEVER actually explains it. Furthermore, what they are pointing out to be bad, might not actually be any issue at all.

Fourth part: Taliban - and Newsmax is citing who's opinion again? Oh, right. They don't actually say where it comes from. Makes one wonder where they are getting their info from. After all, the war is being scaled down, and OBL is dead. Furthermore, Iraq and Afghanistan both have functioning governments... just varying degrees of functionality. However, it's been slowly improving.

Fifth part: Auto industry - Well, Newsmax was correct about GM and Chrysler, but completely incorrect about Ford. Technically, Ford did not receive the same bailouts as GM and Chrysler. However, Ford did take out BILLIONS in government backed loans. These loans, if Ford defaulted, would be covered by the American taxpayer, exactly like the bailouts that GM and Chrysler received. In short, Ford did receive bailouts in the form of government backed loans, just not in the exact same forum as GM and Chrysler. Most people tend to forget that fact, as this article did.

In short, Newsmax's little factcheck wasn't exactly full of facts in the first place. They did hit a few facts, but then skewed the rest.

Curtis, on fords behalf, most of those loans were for producing energy efficient automobiles. Every car maker gets those. So some of your facts are skewed. Even Large truck makers get those loans.

The article states that Ford "managed to get along on its own" in reference to bailout money and not receiving government help. That is completely false, as Ford DID in fact take government-backed loans, and asked for them too.

So no, I did not skew any facts whatsoever. Ford almost certainly would have had to file for bankruptcy like GM and Chrysler did if it weren't for the government's help and the government-backed loans.

DailyTech - Auto Companies Accuse Department of Energy of Hoarding Loan Money

fAct that many companies asked for these fuel efficient development loans.

And yes Curtis you are about half correct, cause Allan Mullaly did request for help, and did want the cash for clunkers. But they in reality did not recieve a bailout, cause then you can label all those other ones that are listed in the article as receiving bailout cash.

Do you see me disagreeing that other companies did the same thing? No, I didn't.

These are called loans! Companies do this all the time. Especially when you have the EPA changing the game so often.

The bailouts were supposed to be loans too.
