Boeing & the National Labor Board

Spat over Boeing plant sparks political storm - Business - US business - msnbc.com

Quote:
The NLRB says it doesn't object to Boeing's decision to build a second assembly plant in South Carolina. The issue, it charges, is that company executives said publicly, and repeatedly, that a major factor in the decision was two recent strikes, in 2005 and 2008, by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the union representing Boeing production workers.

If they said, Were going to move this work to South Carolina because we cant afford to keep paying the wage in Washington, even, that would have been OK. But they cant say its because of a strike, because a strike is a legally protected activity, said Nancy Kleeland, a spokeswoman for the NLRB. Its really about the motive for the move, not the move itself.
Shouldn't they be able to do business in what ever state they want for what ever reason they want?

Re: Boeing & the National Labor Board

There is a company in Fort Smith AR. Great company to work for, the only way to get on there is somebody dies or retires, nobody quits. There is a waiting list. A union tried to come in there, the owner called a meeting, told the employees to go ahead and vote, if they voted a union in, the owner would close the doors the next day. The employees did not vote the Union in.

BTW, they were being paid better than union scale, they had better than union bennies.

The name of the company is Baldor Electric Motors.

And that is illegal....The US Gypsum Corporation did the same thing here and got in quite a bit of trouble. The labor board said USG was threatening the workers.... I see it as the company laying out the facts.

Re: Boeing & the National Labor Board

If I own the company, and I decide to close the doors and shut down the company, how in the world could that be illegal.

PsRumors, I bet you listen to Neil Bortz on a regular basis.

The unions and workers did them selves in. No one to blame but them selves.

The only problem I see with the South getting mfg jobs and companies that move from the North are a bunch of Damn Yankees that fubared their own northern states might move here and fubar this great land of ours. Oh boy! did I just stir up a hornets nest.

But it is OK for them to tell me what to do with MY company. Not a publicly owned company, MY company.
