Feds threatening to crack down on marijuana

States reassess marijuana laws after fed warnings | ajc.com

Quote:
OLYMPIA, Wash. Several states have started reassessing their medical marijuana laws after stern warnings from the federal government that everyone from licensed growers to regulators could be subjected to prosecution.

The ominous-sounding letters from U.S. attorneys in recent weeks have directly injected the federal government back into a debate that has for years been progressing at the state level. Warnings in Washington state led Gov. Chris Gregoire to veto a proposal that would have created licensed marijuana dispensaries.

Gregoire, the chair of the National Governors Association, now says she wants to work with other states to push for changes to federal marijuana laws to resolve the legal disputes caused by what she described as prosecutors reinterpreting their own policies.
So how many of those that argue for so much federal guberment will scream for state's rights on this one subject?

Re: Feds threatening to crack down on marijuana

I dont know what the issue is but it should be legalized. I dont smoke the shat but I have and Id rather do that than get all piled up on alcohol and be a dangerous mess.

The part you quoted is somewhat vague, imo, to no fault of your own. I just dont know if the obvious is what they are REALLY refer(no pun intended)ing to. Seems as though someone has their panties wadded up.

Re: Feds threatening to crack down on marijuana

Sorry, the first time I skipped over the link!

A co-worker just returned from Denver last week. He bought some pot in a store out there. He said they had jars of different strains sitting right on the counter in plain sight. He said people were smoking it in plain sight outside.

I know another Illinoisan who moved to California and got a dr's note and he gets pot and is legal to carry an ounce or less.

Is the sh!t legal or is it illegal? It seems like the medical side of it is under scrutiny and even attack by the feds. Somebody needs to get this squared away.

Re: Feds threatening to crack down on marijuana

Alaska decriminalized marijuana back in the 70's, but the local FBI kept telling people that it was still a federal crime.

In the big scheme of things, I would much rather be around a pothead than a drunk.

The only time a pothead gets violent is when there's only one Ding Dong left.

If pot were legalized, controlled and taxed at the federal level.....the money we would save/make could then be used to go after more insidious drugs like coke/heroin.

.

Never have so many politicians, screwed so many Americans...just to make one black person lose his job.

Re: Feds threatening to crack down on marijuana

I like how everyone skipped over the question. The question is not should it be legalized. The question is why on this one topic do the libs start screaming states right. It is a federal crime. Now ask these same libs about illegal aliens and Arizona, and they will say that the feds laws trump the states laws.

@yogi-I dont really understand. If something is illegal federally how can the state say it is legal? Or even vice versa? I realize it is this way but how/why?

Fwiw, I think IL should decide what IL's laws are.

Its a little thing called states rights Tyler. Technically in those states its still Illegal. They just dont jail you for it. They write you a ticket and fine you unless you have a legit medical card. And even if you do have a med card they can fine you if you have more on you than the card allows for

It just got moved from a misdemeanor type offense to basically a low level traffic ticket.

I skipped over your question primarily because it was simply an incorrect assesment of "all libs" therefore there was no way to correctly answer it. It's like if I said "Since all Conservatives believe that the EPA is useless, than why can't ABC corp. build a nuclear waste facility directly next to your children's school?" See it begins w/ an incorrect statement so both statements remove serious consideration.

Of course MJ should be legal. Anyone that has been in the real world should know this and if you don't you need to get out more.

I'm officially...Stroke-less.
