I love this machine.
Since we moved back in the woods here in North Idaho we are faced with some challenges like a flooding road and property. Tons of snow
Heavy equipment! I came to Idaho with a small John Deere compact tractor, 4x4
this sucker was my dad's and I am keeping it forever. It has become the base of operations for me, I use it for everything including moving all of our truck things around (loading and unloading broken down rangers and explorers)
Living here I need to dig and move dirt/mud and snow. Occasionally we will need to fix our road as it can wash out from the river or snow run off
I have been researching our needs for a year, saving money and coming up with a plan. The plan was originally a backhoe, because they can dig and push. We would need a 4x4
to handle the ice, well a 4x4
backhoe starts at about $25K. Some of these machines are a bit too large for sections of our road and at the top of our price range. So I made a decision, we are going to use a mini ex and a small dozer to do the job, with the Deere compact tractor cleaning up the mess.
So for months I was searching for the right machine, I found it!
1998 Takeuchi TB035 mini excavator!! Takeuchi is a Japanese company they have built heavy equipment for over 50 years, the quality of their mini ex is top notch, just like kubota, komatsu, deer cat
, etc. In fact the Takeuchi brand is preferred by many contractors known for holding up well and having smooth operations.
Mine was $10K under our budget but it also needs a little work.
The machine itself is in excellent shape, all hydraulics and drives work awesome. The only looseness or wear and tear area is the bucket and pins, we need new bucket pins to remove some slop.
The electrical part of things and the engine side of things could use some serious help! That is where I come in. I can fix electrical and replace or rebuild engines.
None of the lights or gauges work, in fact the whole right console is Fubar. Non of the cold start aids are working (thermostart and intake heater)
The ignition has been bypassed and a Mr Gasket cheapo electric fuel pump has been added. The machine came with a can of ether, and it is REQUIRED for it to start when cold.
Once she is running she works very well until it gets hot and then under load...the engine will die and not re start 90% of the time. Let it cool off it will restart and go again. If it sat overnight it will not start without the ether.
So plans have begun to repower this machine and fix the electrical side of things. I want the warning lights and gauges working. I am getting quotes right now for a re manufactured Yanmar diesel. If the reman cost too much we may tackle the rebuild ourselves.
Yanmar 3 cyl turbo diesel, 33 horsepower. Has "some" leaks (like 10 of them)
Hour meter read 4300 when it quit working years ago I am sure
Pump, drives, undercarriage and the rest of the machine are in really really good shape, she just needs a new heart.
I suspect low compression as it is getting fuel and air, once running it runs well on all 3 cylinders it is just obviously down on power. When hot and put under load it dies.
Large oil leak on turbo oil return line, lots of oil leaks and a few fuel leaks. This sucker has been neglected for long enough!
So come along with me as we fix up the 1998 Takeuchi Mini Ex!!
I am also still shopping for a small dozer...but that is another thread.
Anyone here have experience with a Yanmar turbo diesel 3 cyl "refresh"? It could not be a more simple machine!! "Like a small cummins"
This rock has been in the wrong place for too long, first time I ever used the boom and bucket!
more pics coming! I need to perform a compression test and yes I have a diesel compression tester
