We are going over detailing in school and we have been told that we can spray engines with pressure washers.

Re: spraying engine

Older engines I've never had trouble, but there are so many electronics and sensors and wires on these that there is a pretty high risk that a wire could be worn thin or a gasket on a sensor isn't working right or something that you might end up frying.

Re: spraying engine

Pressure washing seems to be a hit or miss thing. My step dad could pressure wash a power substation inside out with the power running thru it with no ill effects if he owned it.

If I had a pet rock and he pressure washed it the thing would fall apart. Every time Ive let him pressure wash a car of mine it never ran right again or took weeks to get back to normal.

Im totally against pressure washing for obvious reasons

Re: spraying engine

I will not put a pressure washer to my PSD's engines. Just not a good idea. Unless you like hunting for ghost electrical issues. Also if you use a degreaser, just get some simple green. Normal engine degreaser will erode the oil filler cap among other things.

Re: spraying engine

Must be what happened to my oil fill cap, looks like something chewed on it. Bad pitted.

Re: spraying engine

yep dont pressure wash it, you risk blowing the insulation off the wires especially if they are old and brittle, degreaser set for bout 30 min then flush with garden hose with the trigger sprayer.

Re: spraying engine

I pressure wash my PSD and All of our Big rig engines a few times a year and i haven't had any problems. But i have heard of people that really mess #### up doing that so like Crowz said its kinda hit or miss just stick with simple green and a garden hose if you wanna be safe!!!
