Cleaning the motor

How should I go about pressure washing the engine? Running not running? Cover anything? avoid some parts?

Re: Cleaning the motor

Don't pressure wash. Degreaser of your choice. Let it sit, rinse off with low pressure sprayer. Some people cove the alternator.

Re: Cleaning the motor

I use a product called "Oil Eater" that Tom S told me about and the stuff is AWESOME.

I mean it works insanely good. Makes the plastic and rubber parts look like new and pulls the grease OUT.

Like andy said, DONT pressure wash it. Spray it down with degreaser, let it set a bit, and rinse with very low pressure water.

Try to avoid spraying electrical components and sensor directly...

Re: Cleaning the motor

I also have a hot water hose in the garage and that helps to cut the grease as well. I have been trying Adam's green cleaner some here lately too and it is very good if it is not really greasy.

Re: Cleaning the motor

I've been pressure washing my engine for years, I always put a plastic bag over the airfilter and ALT. I spray a heavy coating simple green on (or any good degreaser) let is sit for a few minutes then start washing being careful not to spray any sensors or electrical connections directly with the HP water.

Re: Cleaning the motor

Costco is where I got it from.

Also works good on laundry and the garage floor.
