Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

Hello everyone, I am just starting my Fummins project and am wondering what turbo and injectors anyone else has used. The truck is an 03 F350 c/c dually 4X4 with a 6L auto. I am not sure what kit to use yet but am leaning on the fordcummins kit. I will be using the 5r110 tranny and the engine going in is from a 97 auto truck. I want to tune to 450 Rear wheel HP and not have any high EGTs. Your input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

For the life of me i couldn't understand what in the heck you were asking with your 12 volts into turbo question. then it dawned on me. I am not smart sometimes.

No joke the fordcummins kits are expensive.

450 to the rear wheel?

What's your budget? What do you plan on doing with said vehicle setup ?

I have an 01 with nothing more than an S300 turbo "BD super special" which i absolutely love, quick spool and holds up to 45 PSI with no issues. But being a 24V I am running a tuner (quadzilla adrenaline iQuad)

A few things i would recommend for your 12V project.

1. 3Pc manifold (you have to use a 3rd gen mani don't you?) helps spool time and prevents cracks
2. RV275 or roughly 75/100 HP sticks
3. S300 turbo or start looking towards the HE351 VGT turbo and controller
4. Fuel plate (your choice)
5. FASS system to fuel that poor thing,

It would be drive-able yet TONS of power when you need it.

Posting on Dieselbombers might net you better results for cummins questions

I'd recommend checking out the cummins forum. I used to be on there a good bit when I had my cummins. In my opinion that forum is a lot more active than this one. Good luck man!

Yes it is going to be costly. Probably 20K and im still not sure if its worth it. Thanks for the suggestions. The 3rd gen manifold will not bolt up to the engine and there is not a performance manifold out there yet to relocate the turbo (at least one I can't find) so i'm stuck with the one in the kit. I am looking at 100hp injectors and a fat shaft turbo, and a fass, fuel plate and 4000rpm springs, triple billit torque converter. ARP studs ect. But the cost????? The kit is around 6000, and the shop quoted me 80hrs labour

Re: Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

I can't remember who made them, or where i found them. But someone offers a 3pc mani that works well on these swaps. I'm pretty sure it was 12 or 24V trucks.

With all the room and what not, couldn't you just run the flipped manifold like most people do when they are setting up compounds? (i know that a $300 manifold isn't really the big issue here)

the kit shows $4,000 plus $200.00 shipping for me, Not sure if there was another site you were looking at.

Craigslist will net you a decent complete 12V truck for around 3,500 -5,000

And yea, by the time all is said and done it's pushing roughly 60 hours for a swap.

Most people that do these swaps either have a boat load of cash, or they outright own their truck and found a cheap Cummins somewhere.

And mostly they do all the work themselves, paying people to do work can get pricey

60 hrs @ 120 an hour $7200

Honestly I would look into finding a 03+ cummins and leave the upgrades for down the road when it's all running again. a common rail with a mild tuner / programmer will leave a smile on your face and have plenty of room to tow.

Re: Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

Thanks Tweaker. I have the 12V here already out of a 97, and I have thought about flipping the manifold, but I am not sure about room under the hood. The kit does not include the turbo or the torque converter. The more I look at this and think about it I think I can do this myself in my own shop(with help of course). I guess it just takes some confidence in myself to do the swap, and time. For now tho I am going to do the EGR delete and change out the oil cooler in the 6L

Re: Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

I recommend 5 by 12 SDX injectors. With a S362turbo from engineered diesel probably a 62\70\14 with race cover. Dont run a fuel plate. Just mod your afc correctly and tune it right. Use 4k gsk in the pump and through some custom cut delivery valves in the pump. Dont forget your valve springs and I reccomend getting new head bolts and torquing them in the old fsshion 12v spec racers use. Or use arp studs. Youll be sittin prety where is a smoke free 475 horse power truck. All the parts listed will be about 2700 dollars. Then I would use destroked for your swap parts.

Re: Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

Thanks Jay, I will check out the turbo. I will probably be using Bosch injectors,(I have a connection at Bosch Automotive), I will be changing valve springs and installing ARP studs. A 475hp c/c dually 4X4 would be sweet.

Re: Newbie, 12V into a 03 F350 turbo? injectors?

No problem. And for those that are saying it cost 10k it doesn't have too. I've done and excursion 12v/nv4500 swap and a 2003 5.4 f250 to 12v swap. The excursion I had 4k into the complete finished product. Left that one around 350rwhp and my f250 I did for 5k total into the swap and that one used the stock zf6 trans . It had the combo I recommended above and put down 487 to the wheels and was smoke free. The most expensive part to that swap was the e.d. Turbo at 1680 dollars. I get my 12v motors from buying complete rotted out trucks they give them away at around 1500 to 2000. I like manual trans trucks so I like to use the nv4500 instead of buying the adapter.

Awesome Jay. It will be great to have someone here who has done this before to assist in my build.
