Who's making their own bio-diesel, and how successful are you at saving money doing it?

Well running the waste oil from a local catfish place is costing my wife 5 cents a gallon for her mercedes 190D. We like it

Re: Driving 172 miles costs me 50 dollars!

If you can find enough WVO and can live with the risks/limitations I say go for it.

I would prefer (if I could stand chem lab on steroids) to make B100, but that means I have to find 150 gallons of good WVO a month and it just ain't within driving distance.

Airflow's mileage must really, really suck. I just went 475 miles on $77.

Re: Driving 172 miles costs me 50 dollars!

since my motor's already not that great I think I'm going to run 50% WVO this summer with a tank-full of BioD every 3 or so fill-ups to clean the crap back out. This fall I think I'm going to put a new motor (well, low-mile stocker) in it then do a vegi-stroke conversion or something like that.

Re: Driving 172 miles costs me 50 dollars!

They dont sell bio here so I just run #2 in my truck, to chicken to run the vegi the wifes using in hers. The merc's injection system is very simple and seems from what Ive read on the net to be the perfect waste oil burner.

Cost me on average $20 for 100 miles. I sometimes get a good bit more but thats about the norm for all in town driving. Not really that bad considering how much diesel is right now.

Re: Driving 172 miles costs me 50 dollars!

Its $4.10 last few times I got diesel. Im pretty pleased with it. Figured around 20 mpg or so most of the time. Worse its done is 90 miles for $20 but that a bunch of idling that time.

I drive about 57 mph everywhere and its pretty flat.

Beats the 13.5 mpg or worse my gmc got
