Truck is drinking my wallet....

I'm averaging under 10 mpg in my 2001 reg cab (mods in sig). I'm just trying to figure out what are the possible causes of this. I'm thinking wheeling bearings, or brakes or something but, the truck drives and runs fine it just drinks fuel. Any ideas what I should check this weekend when I get a chance?

sounds like its your 08 tailgate! You should get rid of it, How bad is the drag on the tires if you jack up the truck?

Re: Truck is drinking my wallet....

what collor smoke do you make.... white/gray and black? at start up and idling, acceleration. that will help you see if your injectors are leaking fuel instead of atomizing it.
fuel in the oil? clogged up air filter? oil change time? tunes on the DP you run the most? idle time? Fuel leaks?

Re: Truck is drinking my wallet....

It does blow white smoke on cold starts and idling when cold. I'll have to check the oil out but it is just about time to change it. I run the 60 tow and 80e most of the time and I have a ton of injector rattle with those tunes but not on stock...

Re: Truck is drinking my wallet....

My boss says my injectors could be dirty and to try injector cleaner... I'm thinking its more likely they are damaged or something.

I also have a factory clutch with 141,000 on it and the last 30,000 it was chipped and ran pretty good. Could a slipping clutch cause the bad mileage?

Any ideas? this sucks...

Re: Truck is drinking my wallet....

I know when winter time comes my mileage drops a butt load. I go from averaging 16.5-17 down to 9.5-11mpg. Mostly due to the warm ups and idling.

i dont know about using a "fuel injector cleaner" just the validity in it.

i do use powerservice diesel clean, the white bottle for anti gell, and a healthy douce of 2 stroke oil.

if the clutch is slipping... its working aginst you just like a slipping TC would. hence, with 0 slip your running 70 mph at 2000 Rpm. slipping clutch 70mph is 2100rpm, but when your accelerating you have to run it up to say 2800 to achieve the same acceleration as running it to 2100 rpm. numbers arnt exact but it's what can happen. and also not helping using a high gear and low RPM. had to drive a truck in the shop that was needing a clutch... you couldnt use high range even with the truck unloaded.

anyways, check for any leaks, dump some 2 stroke oil in. the cheep stuff from walmart as you have seen in the 100's of other posts. and check your millage.
