bad mileage

now i didnt exactly buy a one ton dually with 4.10s to get good mileage. however 12 mpg empty and 9 mpg towing seems a bit low. no matter what tuning i run i always get the same results. i have never seen higher than 13 highway. everyone i talk to says they get 15 or better even with the same set up i have. so are they bs ing me or is my truck not right?

Re: bad mileage

I have 373's and i have seen 18-19mpg unloaded if i stay at or just under 2k rpm's, I believe that puts me at around 68-70mph. When it gets cold and its loaded (7k) i am around 15-16mpg. The biggest thing is trying to deal with staying at or under the 2k rpm's.

Re: bad mileage

A dually with 4.10 gears and big wheeels, 4x4, and an automatic.

You are about par.

Re: bad mileage

With those 19.5's, I bet they are taller than stock. Right? If so that might be where the difference is coming from. Your speedo could be off giving you the impression of lower MPG's. You need some good ol' 2 stroke premix in the fuel...

Re: bad mileage

Things that might help for little to no expense. I would guess 3mpg gain with these maybe more depending on your current setup.

1. 203* t-stat
2. stay under 2k rpm's
3. Tires at max press
4. Stanadyne Perf formula.

Re: bad mileage

I seem to get different mpg from diff. fuel stops. Must be diff. cetane ratings or diff. grades of diesel try docoring your fuel(Add a cetane improver) see if your mpgs go up or down.

Re: bad mileage

2 stroke premix. Try it at 1oz per gallon of diesel.

Re: bad mileage

I'd try the 2 stroke & try the best that you can to keep it below 2000 rpms. Your right, it does seem like you should do more like 14 or so.

Re: bad mileage

I am having similar issues...

I seem to get around 12mpg(once got just shy of 14)...

The more I read, the more it seems wrong...

AND, I spend quite a bit of time at highway speeds, and under 2k on the highway..

Straight piped, zoodad, etc... no chip, or anything fun yet..
