my truck calculates my average MPG for me on the dash and it says I'm only getting 11.2 MPG can I trust the reading or is it probably inaccurate. thanks

Its called a Lie-o-Meter. Mine has never been right even when on the stock tune.

Take a trip and hand calculate it.

yep. hand calculate is the only way.

FWIW, my buddie's 6.0 said he was getting 23... hand calculated he was getting 14.9...

And your signature states 35's. Might want to check your speedometer against GPS just to see what your actual MPH is. Even if it was change, it's still worth checking so that it is eliminated from possible and reasonable error.

Re: Average MPG 11.2

My 06 is very accurate both stock and tuned. It's always within 2 or 3 tenths every time. In order for it to be accurate you have to reset it at fill up and not touch it again until you fill up the next time. You also have to fill the tank to a consistent level every time. If I don't fill to the same level, I can see some wide discrepencies between the hand calc and the meter.

35s are going to make a difference if your speedometer hasn't been calibrated for them, but it should make the mpg on the meter look worse not better.

Your tires may be thowing off you odometer, and showing less miles than you drove. That would through fuel mileage way off, done by hand or the trucks computer. Check the accuracy of the odometer. Mine is off by .2 miles with 35's

Re: Average MPG 11.2

Have you been doing alot of driving in 4x4 & in the snow? I know that will cut down MPG like nothing else + winter fuel & the weather being colder.

No I havnt used 4x4 at all. It hasn't really snowed where I am yet. I'm not towing or anything either. So I guess its wrong. I'll check if my speedometer is calibrated and let you guys no.

unless the truck came with 35's i have to assume the speedometer is not correct

there are a few ways to fix that issue.

mostly i suggest inline devices, as I have yet to hear of somebody with a programmer correct their speedometer, unless they get it done by ford, and even then they can only go to 35" tires i think

kenny

I am also going to assume the speedometer is incorrect because I bought the truck used and the guy had 35s on it so there is a very good chance that it is incorrect.
