Sun Visor MPG Loss

I was looking at the cab sun visor on my truck the other day and got to wondering how much it is costing me in fuel. Anyone have any knowledge of how much drag this could be causing?

Thanks,
Shawn

Re: Sun Visor MPG Loss

It's been measured on a big rig and although it varies w/ design it definitely has a noticable effect.

But don't expect more than .5 mpg or so improvement.

I'm officially...Stroke-less.

Sun visors are a mixed bag.

On big rigs they work because big rig windshields are nearly vertical.

Super Duty windshields have a much flatter slope. I'd think sun visors may be counter-productive.

Re: Sun Visor MPG Loss

I recall back in '96 when I bought my truck new I lost almost 2 mpg adding the visor.
Now, with all the holes in the roof, I don't drive that truck when I want good mileage...

Re: Sun Visor MPG Loss

Interesting. One says no loss and another says 2 MPG. I'll probably pull it for a few tank fulls and report back. The ugly holes in the roof are a concern too though.

Thanks,
Shawn

For some reason I don't see you loosing MPG with just a moon visor. I know people with em & they get the about the same MPG as people who don't have them.

Ever stick your hand out the window at 65 mph? Almost rips your arm off. Think about how much air that visor is catching...
Yup, around 2 mpg, from 18 to 16. Only other mods at the time were muffler delete, and a tool box.
Maybe it's just my truck.

Re: Sun Visor MPG Loss

Is your's solid or does it have some slots to let some air through it?

Re: Sun Visor MPG Loss

Mostly open, mounts to the cab in 4 places. Again, those 4 mounts are about as wide as your hand, drive down the road with your hand out the window, it's not hard to tell how much wind it's catching...
