zf-5? or zf-6?

What are the differences other then overdrive or granny low that comes in the zf-6. Which is stronger? what are there weak points?

This is from the gearvendors website.

http://gearvendors.com/f2wdt.html

Those are the trans ratios for the 5 and 6 speeds.

The 6 speed is rated higher input torque than the 5 speed. The biggest downfall of the 6 speed, I think is the split between 2nd and 3rd gears. JMHO

Must not be a PSD, all Super Duties have the ZF-6.

I have been around several 5's around the farm.....most of them you have to hold in reverse to keep it in, or they have an issue with 2nd gear.

I have had great luck with both of the SD ZF-6 tranny I have had. Done a lot of heavy towing with both trucks.

My early 99 has a ZF6. I have beat on it for years. I do not have any experience with the 5 speed.
