E40D troubles

So today while heading to pick up some building materials to get a small garage built so i can have a place to get some work done on my truck i noticed that my trans was leaking when i got out. Leaking pretty good to. Steady dripping/run of oil from my bell housing. Im gonna guess my front seal is gone? Truck only has 56k km on it so nothing. But it was used for hauling and towing before and i noticed sometimes its not the best shifting. So should i just drop the trans and change the seals or get it rebuilt. Really dont have the money for a rebuild right now unless i cancel the garage project.

Would love to get a built trans (monster trans looks like a decient price, dont know about quality tho) but being in Canada i know i will get shafted hard on the shipping

I would drop the pan and see what's in it before deciding if there's a lot of clutch material or metal then plan on a rebuild if there's not much then may not need a rebuild just a good service. Diesel site seems to do good work Lt Dan did a write up on his. Don't know bought shipping thou.

Sent from my super awsome outdated new Samsung phone whose 500mA draw hasn't over-overloaded multiple already over rated branch circuits just beyond the kaboom point and caught everything on fire yet. So @heavydoc can be happy that it finally did.🤣 And @Turd-250 "WILL" be blamed for. If My internet will stay up for @heavydoc to see my pics. And @ArmyFord6.0 will still be eatting quinoa wishing it was bacon.🤣

Ok after further inspection the pump seal was good. Trans cooler lines not so much. New trans lines and no more leaks.

Now on to the other trans problem i have. My trans has been doing this since i got the truck. If i am driving at highway speeds lets say 100 kph (60mph) and i going to pass someone or start going up a hill and give it more fuel to maintain speed. When the truck down shifts (im assuming comming out of over drive) it will rev really high, like going from 2000rpm to 3000rpm when it down shifts, and will have no acceletarion i will actually loose speedand not be able to pick up any speed at all. This is with nothing towing behind or in the pan. Also tested the od off button yesterday while doing roughly 80-90kph and she does the same thing. Like there is no power transmission to the rear tires just a high reving engine. Press od button again and she shifts up perfect. While in od truck runs perfect, while in 1st and 2nd she runs perfect. On flat she seems to be accelerating good woth no problems. Im just wonderig what could be casing this? Are the clutches for 3rd worn out? Fluid doesnt look or smell burn and was basically changed hen new lines were put in.

Re: E40D troubles

My guess is that your problem is either a plugged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. It's not a transmission problem. If the third gear clutch (the direct clutch) were bad you also would not have fourth gear (overdrive) because the direct must also hold for that gear. It also must hold in reverse, so that wouldn't work, either.
