Are all 4r100's 4x4 the same or interchangeable?

I picked up a 2003 F250 4x4 with the 4r100 transmission. The trans is shot. I was going to replace with new but I am looking at buying another parts truck and would like to use the trans from one truck and other parts for another. More or less can I use any 4r100 4x4 tranny in any other 4x4 f250?

Are there certain years I should stay away from that are ore problematic or that are not interchangeable? I am trying to fix the 2003 so trying to find out what years f250 4x4 models will work?

While I am looking at them I plan to buy the latest model parts truck I can use for my 2001 2wd and my 2003 4wd both crew cabs. I see that late model 2003 that switched to the 5r110W and then again in 2011 to the 6r140. Since I will have the transmission and well as the electronics from whatever parts truck I pick, I can really pick any year I want as a parts truck. Are the later model transmissions from FORD better and will they work with my 2003 or my 2001 7.3's?

99-03 7.3 is the only years you can use. Can't use the 03 6.0 trans. You can't use one from a gasser either. But they are the same from the f250-f550.

The early '99 transmissions are different. They are missing two speed sensors that late '99 and newer trucks MUST have for the transmission to shift.
