ZF6 weak point's?

I would like to know the weak points of the ZF6 trans Mine has 4k on it if the guy wasnt lying, but anywho I know the output shaft has broken in these with excessive HP.But in my app im running the DT466 and was told they can exceed 2k torque, Im going to run kenny's triple disc clutch. Im wanting to tear down the trans and do a full rebuild and heat treat the known weak points later in my build. any tip trick on this or info is greatly appreciated!

Re: ZF6 weak point's?

I broke the #### out of mine! I did it when I launched off the line in a 3.0 class at 4500 RPMs running 2nd Hi. There was a bounce that is very noticable in the video coming from the rear end - but it wasn't as noticable from the cab and it felt more along the lines of the little bit of bounce that the always came from that truck during take off. I am sure the bounce didn't help the situation, but ultimately I completely blame the failure on having that transmission in 2nd gear. Everyone that trys to pull that gear twists the output shaft in two. Sure they might get away with it once or twice, but it will break from the torque.

I never did completely explain the bearing being pulled out of the middle plate, but I didn't investigate it very far other than the casting differences I found in the two transmissions I had on hand. I haven't heard of anyone else having this failure, so it very will could have been a fluke.

I posted up a thread about it a while ago with lots of pictures. Here

Just for fun here is the video of me braking the transmission in that thread.

I think its time I get another truck onto the track.........
