E40D problems

CaptZach called me earlier, and wanted me to make this post just to be sure that the tranny is in need of a rebuild.

He said he was headed to work and it hung in first for a really long time and when it hit second it shifted extremely hard and the OD light started flashing.

Re: E40D problems

Could be debris in the fluid caused the valvebody to stick or a solenoid to stick or might even be bad solenoid pack. could also be a bad tranny. If the O/D light is flashing have the truck scanned for codes and see what happened. It could be any number of things.

Re: E40D problems

Yeah, the transmission is in need of repair. Without having the truck in front of you its hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but of the two or three things that it can be. None of them are going to allow the transmission to live long at all. It could be any of the things that the previous posts say. If it is a valve sticking in the valve body, he could just need to have the valve body replaced, but depending on the milage it could be time for a refresh anyways.
