Tranny swap?

I have a 99 F350 with 7.3. It scrubs bad shifting into 3rd and nothing in 4th. Feels like it's in neutral. I've got a 88 f350 7.3 parts truck, but was wondering if the 5 speed zf would be interchangeable with 99. I know ratio is different, and not as strong, but would it swap out? Thanks for any help.

I thought only the E99 had the zf5 while the L99 had the zf6.

Re: Tranny swap?

Not sure when they switched to the zf6, but I would think it would bolt right up. Of course there would be a couple minor issues. 1) your cross-member might not work 2) the driveshaft might not be the correct length or u-joint 3) not sure about the zf6 slave cylinder, it might be different don't know. Regardless, I would check all of the above. Also the zf6 had a "cooler" attached to it I believe, so you're going to have a couple cooler lines hanging with no where to go (I suppose you could remove it all together.....).

Re: Tranny swap?

Thanks for all the support. I was for sure it would bolt right up, but any help on clutch, pp, throw out bearing, fork arm comparability would be greatly appreciated.

If zf5 to zf5, it's all the same.
