97 / E40D shifting crazy

my 97 f350 trans is shifting crazy. the lite on shifter is blinking and when it shifts it feels like you hit it with a 10lb sledge hammer. also it dont down shift rite and it winds the motor up moore than normal. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT... TKS

Get the codes read. The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes. You need either a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.

OK I GOT 3 CODES ... P0500 VSS CIRCUT FAULT / P0344 CAM SENSOR A CIRCUT / P1728 TRANS SLIP FAULT . ANY IDEAS ON THIS STUFF ? TKS

The P0344 means either the cam sensor or the wiring to the cam sensor has an open or short. You should check the wiring for continuity, short to ground, and short to power. If those check out, replace the sensor. Same thing for the vehicle speed sensor, except that the problem could also be caused by the PSOM on the back of the instrument cluster. I'd ignore the P1728 until those two problems are fixed. That code probably set because of the first two codes.
