tranny finished?

Hi, I have a 2001 7.3. It has about 80,000 miles on it. A couple days ago the truck wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd unless I let right off. It did shift once at about 3000rpm, but shifted really hard, then the od light started flashing. The transmission fluid is a bit dark, and smells a little burnt. I took it to the local trans shop, they said the codes were 1st to 2nd shift, and 2nd to 3rd shift. They didn't give me any numbers. They also said that the tranny is toast, what do you guys think? Nothing slips, and it all happened suddenly.

Re: tranny finished?

Sounds like a typical 01 diode failure. Time for a rebuild sorry man

Re: tranny finished?

When the shifts didn't happen, the transmission probably upped the line pressure to make it happen. Which is your resulting harsh shift. Keep that up and it will tear itself apart. Get it looked at before the cost goes up.

Re: tranny finished?

They're right. The mechanical diode failed. The trans has to be rebuilt or replaced. Further driving will just make the rebuild more expensive.

Re: tranny finished?

Thanks guys. Does anybody happen to know of a good place to get a transmission rebuilt up here in Alberta, Canada? Or if there is a BTS dealer up this way somewhere?
