convertor locking up in reverse! HELP!!

When the trans warms up it locks in reverse and kills the motor. Is this mechanicle or a ele prob?

97' 4x4 auto

Doesn't roll with anyone or tag along to be cool...

Is it a factory tranny? Other than some wiring issues like a short in the lock up circuit it could be front pump and/or torque converter seals leaking by.
It could be caused by a loose transmission filter. you can put a flat magnetic strip in the trans pan below the filter pick up to retain the filter also will help with metal carry over. Ranger A4LD transmission has a good magnet for this.

Loose filter causing lock-up? Not doubting just sounds weired.

Doesn't roll with anyone or tag along to be cool...

Low trans fluid can do it, too. It uses pressure to keep the converter clutch off, if the pressure dips low the clutch drifts on.

If the neck drops out of the pickup port, it will suck air..

Worst case scenario, weak pump or damaged seals allowing too much pressure drop in reverse.

I left out the poke but that's where I was heading. The truck runs good in drive, it has been shifting harder though. Could loss of psi cause both?

Doesn't roll with anyone or tag along to be cool...

Either, Or . You complained of torque converter lock up, those are the possible solutions. Read what Mark said Pressure.
