2001 4r100 starting in 2nd

like the title says. I have 2001 F250 powerstroke 4x4 with the 4r100. The OD light blinks sometimes when taking off and it feels like it is starting in 2nd. Then it will downshift and take off through the gears fine. Once you reach overdrive speeds the light stops blinking. Tried replacing the VSS on the diff, but no improvement.

It's in the trans shop now and mechanic tells me that it's reading speed even when the truck isn't moving (anywhere from 15-40mph) and that's why the cpm is telling the trans to be in a higher gear.

In research, I ran across TSB 02-11-3 P which says poor computer ground leads to noticing input from engine electrical noise through antilock brakes or vss. However, the TSB is only for 99-00 RVs or something.

Could I be experiencing the same thing eventhough my truck is a year newer?

Thanks in advance.

Well, this has gotten a lot of views, but no responses. Don't know why, but I thought I'd share the solution. It was the alternator. Replaced the alternator and problem went away. I'm guessing there wasn't enough juice going to the computer and it was getting light headed or there was some electrical disturbance coming from it that was being picked up by something. The truck has 2 alternators, we replaced the top one.
