factory trans tem gauge?

So i sold my old pyro and boost gauges the other day and the guy asked why i got new ones. i told him cause i needed a trans temp gauge and wanted to have all matching guages. he said that his 02 came with a factory trans temp guage. is that right? I think he might have just been looking at the engine temp or something.

Mine came with one from the factory but it isn't accurate. More of a dummy light than anything.

Re: factory trans tem gauge?

2002's have a trans temp gauge. It actually does work unlike the oil pressure one. Its just pretty sluggish about going up compared to what you would get with an aftermarket gauge. You can tell if the trans is getting hot though.

Re: factory trans tem gauge?

That factory tranny should not be trusted! A couple years ago while towing in the mountains my aftermarket tranny gauge was showing that it was overheating. When I got into Yellowstone at camp I was about 4qts low on fluid from it overheating and burping it out. ( the factory gauge said normal the whole time ) So having the aftermarket gauge in my opinion saved my tranny.

Re: factory trans tem gauge?

I'm glad I don't have it. About as useful as the oil pressure gauge that reads "Normal" no matter what as long as the pressure is above 5 psi

Re: factory trans tem gauge?

on my buddies 02 it could be 30 degrees out side and after about 10 minuets of IDLE time the trans temp would go up to its normal point and stop..kinda weird

Re: factory trans tem gauge?

The stock gauge moves from cold to normal at 50F. At 230F it moves to yellow. I think it's about 260F it moves to red.
